We are a group of girls from various backgrounds. Our members come from 6 different public schools, 4 private schools and home school. Our common bond is exploring new things as fellow Girl Scouts.
Each year our troop engages in a project-based STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activity as well as doing traditional GS activities such as service projects, Journeys, badges, camping and field trips. Over the past 10 years we have always earned each penny for our activities through various fundraisers (selling GS cookies, making pies and jewelry and even cutting wood). Although the STEM activities have helped increase our confidence, we never imagined that they would qualify for a world championship and need to come up with a substantial amount of money in such a short amount of time. This once in a lifetime trip is critical to help ensure the momentum continues through the coming years and encourages us to pursue STEM education and careers. In addition, many of us are using the knowledge and skills developed through these STEM activities to help mentor students at their local schools.
If you are looking for a good investment for your charitable contributions, please consider our troop – all donations are tax deductible. If you know any companies that are willing to sponsor – we would gladly put them on our banner and T-shirts.
